About Sustrans

Sustrans makes smarter travel choices possible, desirable and inevitable. We're a leading UK charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day. We work with families, communities, policy-makers and partner organisations so that people are able to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys, with better places and spaces to move through and live in.

It's time we all began making smarter travel choices. Make your move and support Sustrans today.

We're a catalyst- we make smarter travel choices possible.

We campaign- we make smarter travel choices desirable.

We influence- we make smarter travel choices inevitable.

So Sustrans has set about creating an environment that will actually help people to walk and cycle much more. Hence the National Cycle Network offering a mixture of traffic-calmed streets, quiet roads and traffic-free routes in communities all over the UK, helping people to work, shops, school and play.

Every day we're working on innovative ways of overcoming the transport challenges affecting us all.

Sustrans in Scotland

The National Cycle Network continues to expand and grow in Scotland, and we are commissioning artists to work with us to create artworks that will make new routes memorable as well as adding to the wider collection of public art Sustrans has developed over the years. Details of routes being developed can be found in the Scottish pages of Sustrans website, and rides can be found in the easy rides section.

Our Active Travel team is working directly with people who would like to be more active in their daily lives, to enable them to discover or re-discover the joy of walking and cycling in their local area, to the benefit of their health and our environment.

Sustrans Volunteer Rangers are very active throughout Scotland, helping us to look after and promote the National Cycle Network, and we also benefit from the vital support of volunteers helping with delivery of a range of our work. You can find out more about Sustrans volunteering opportunities on our volunteering pages.

Sustrans is working hard throughout Scotland to enable many more children to walk and cycle to school with our Tackling the School Run programme of work. We very actively work with schools and children to give them the right space and skills to travel under their own steam to school. We also work with a range of partners to enable them to work in this area, and create a holistic approach to enabling children to walk or cycle the school run.
