Linking the towns of Irvine, Kilwinning and Kilbirnie, the 18 mile Garnock Valley Cycle Route forms part of National Route 7 of the National Cycle Network. Starting in Irvine, the route follows traffic-free and riverside paths to Kilwinning passing the Garnock Floods Nature Reserve and close to Eglinton Country Park which offers extensive opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding and angling.

Discover the Visitor Centre, enjoy the Ranger led activities or relax on the castle lawns with a picnic while the children enjoy the play areas. After cycling through Kilwinning town, the route crosses the Kilwinning viaduct to join quiet attractive minor roads along the eastern edge of the Garnock Valley towards Kilbirnie. The route passes by the Blair Country Estate, where there is opportunity to explore this wooded estate by foot. At Kilbirnie, you can continue on the Lochwinnoch Loop Line towards Johnstone and Glasgow.

You can return by bike or take a train back to Irvine from Glengarnock station. Shorter cycle trips can easily be arranged by using the regular train service from Irvine, Kilwinning, Dalry and Glengarnock stations.
